On June 1, the Main Auditorium of Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto (ISEP) hosted the ceremony marking the creation of the Technical University of Porto.
The event was attended by the Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, the Minister of Education, Science and Innovation, Fernando Alexandre, the President of P.PORTO, Paulo Pereira, and several representatives from academia, politics and industry. The ceremony marked a historic milestone for the institution and for higher education in Northern Portugal and across the country.
Luís Montenegro highlighted the role of higher education in fostering innovation, competitiveness and economic development, emphasizing the importance of strong links between higher education institutions, research and the business sector.
“What we are doing is helping to ensure that fewer and fewer people are deprived of the opportunity to fulfil their potential. We are developing an education model with a strong connection to the business sector and to the country’s productive capacity. This is one of the defining characteristics of education at the Polytechnic of Porto,” stated the Prime Minister.
The event brought together representatives from the P.PORTO schools, local authorities and other members of the academic community, marking what was described as a “historic day” for the future of the institution.
