Summary
In this session, Sara Hinterplattner will present the theoretical foundations and practical applications of talent development in the school context. The session is guided by a central question: “Why is gifted education essential, and how can it be sustainably integrated into everyday school life?”
With a focus on the Austrian educational landscape, specialized schools and their proven methods for fostering high potential will be highlighted. Sara will also share insights from her ongoing research in Upper Austria, presenting initial findings on the impact of targeted programs on student engagement and teachers’ professional development.
The session aims to provide educators and guardians with evidence-based insights that reinforce the importance of supporting young people from an early age, ensuring their potential is recognized and properly nurtured.
Bio
Sara Hinterplattner is a Professor of Media Education at the University of Education Upper Austria and Director of the study program “Specialist in Gifted Education and Talent Development.”
Her work focuses on research and development of innovative approaches to initial teacher education and continuous professional development in STEM fields. She holds a PhD in Gifted Education and STEM Education, a master’s degree in Computer Science and Mathematics Education, and a bachelor’s degree in Computer and Media Security.
Her research interests include inclusive and gifted education, computer science education and educational technologies, as well as gender and diversity studies.
