Manuel Tender and Ricardo Santos, teachers of the Department of Civil Engineering (DEC) of Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto (ISEP), were distinguished with the Charles Manby Award, attributed by the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), a global entity in the field of civil engineering.
The award recognizes the scientific article “Using Virtual Reality for Occupational Safety and Health in a UK tunnelling megaproject”, developed under the Digital4OSH project, in collaboration with Ferrovial Construction UK. According to ICE, this distinction is attributed to articles recognized for their exceptional quality and for their benefit to the community of civil engineering, construction and materials science.
Created in 2020, the Digital4OSH project emerged following the Tideway Tracer Project, promoted by IOSH and Loughborough University, and aims to improve safety in the construction industry through the application of Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Artificial Intelligence (IA).
Digital4OSH is led in Portugal by ISLA – Polytechnic Institute of Management and Technology (ISLA-IPGT) and, in the United Kingdom, by the University of Loughborough, with the participation of several partner entities, including ISEP, the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, Xispoli Engineering, Glasgow Caledonian University, the University of Minho and BIMMS.
This international recognition underlines the excellence of research carried out at ISEP and the contribution of its faculty to technological innovation and the improvement of engineering practices at global level.
