Helder I. Chaminé, director of the master’s degree in Geotechnical and Geoenvironment Engineering and professor and researcher at the Department of Geotechnical Engineering and the Laboratory of Applied Cartography and Geology (LABCARGA), received a double distinction by Springer Nature, under the Distinction Awards for Editors. He received from Springer Nature the Editorial Contribution Award and the Author Service Award.
These awards result from the work as editor in the scientific journal Discover Geoscience (Springer Nature, SN), mirroring his proactivity, demand level and dedication to the geo-scientific community, the rigorous management of the quality of the peer review process and the exceptional recognition in the efficiency and consolidation of the editorial quality of the journal.
Angela Yang, associate editor of SN, adds that “his dedication to the Discover Water and Discover Geoscience magazines has been invaluable and this recognition is proof of the hard work developed and his experience”.
Helder I. Chaminé had already received, in 2022, the distinction of Outstanding Guest Editor and Editorial Board Member for the excellence of the editorial work developed with the magazine SN Applied Sciences, having recently been promoted to Associate Editor to coordinate the section of Earth Sciences and Environment. He was also invited to join the body of Associate Editors of Discover Geoscience.
Under the editorial coordination of Helder I. Chaminé, the thematic volume Recent Developments in Geosciences to Sustainable Management and Design with the Environment, Hazards and Society is in preparation, which includes 14 original articles published in Discover Geoscience.
João Paulo Meixedo, director of the degree in Geotechnical and Geoenvironment Engineering and colleague, points out that “in fact, these distinctions do not surprise me since the charismatic, multivalent, dedicated, aggregating and creative profile of Helder I. Chaminé is an indispensable and objective reality and that has helped to elevate and cement the foundations of the geotechnical engineering department which, at the end of 2025/2026, celebrates its 50 years of existence. A milestone!”
“This double distinction makes us all proud of his past and present involvement in various international editorial projects, such as Discover Water, Discover Geoscience, Discover Applied Sciences, Environmental Earth Sciences, Hydrogeology Journal, Advances in Science, Technology & Innovation (IEREK+ASTI Springer), among others.”, the Professor wraps up.
